Welcome to the Early Childhood Center, home of the Tiny Tomcats! I am honored to be part of the ECC family and to serve as your new principal. This will be my first year as principal but I’ve served as assistant principal in this building since 2016. The last year of which I worked exclusively with our amazing Jumpstart program, serving families with children from prenatal to three-years-old.
We are excited to offer our Tiny Tomcats and their families half-day and full day preschool programs that have earned Gold Circle of Quality recognition from the state of Illinois. This recognition is given to programs which meet or exceed benchmarks on all fifteen quality standards. Our play based programs offer hands-on, creative and fun opportunities for learning that build critical thinking and problem solving skills to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning for your child. You’ll be amazed at what our three- to five-year olds can do!
Prior to joining the East Aurora 131 community I was a kindergarten teacher for 14 years in Chicago Public schools, Wheaton/Warrenville District 200 and Naperville 203. The last eight years in the classroom, I taught in a Dual Language Spanish Immersion program.
I am a lifelong learner and have an undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I earned Master’s degrees in Educational Leadership from Aurora University and Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I believe that education can be life changing not just for our students but for their families and future generations of their families.
My husband, Mario, and I have two daughters: Karina, who will begin her second year at DePaul University and Sofia, who will be a senior in high school. Outside of my work here I enjoy spending time with my family at their musical performances, cycling, reading and travelling.
I am so excited to have the chance to meet with you to support your children’s success and hope you will come to my “Conchas & Coffee” events this year to learn more about our preschool and meet other parents in our school community. As a parent myself, I know how important it is to your children’s school success to be involved in their education and I look forward to working together with you this year.
Please feel free to call me at (630) 299-7460 or send me an email at sorozco@d131.org with any questions.
I look forward to a great year for our Tiny Tomcats family and am here to serve you!
