The East Aurora Jumpstart program offers parenting enrichment services to families with children from birth through age three. Expectant parents are also welcome!

Jumpstart is a Parents as Teachers (PAT) affiliate that follows an evidence-based, comprehensive home-visiting, parent education model. We focus on strengthening parent-child interaction, development centered parenting, family well-being, and promoting literacy in families.

Our program has served the Aurora community since 1997 and offers home visits, developmental screenings, child and parent lending libraries, parent group meetings, playgroups, and group activities that connect our families to resources in the surrounding area.

“The Jumpstart program helped me learn how to pay attention to the different developmental stages of my girls in how to support them through play, reading, and the activities the program provided.”

– Mr. Florencio Luna

Our services are FREE to all qualifying East Aurora families!

Home Visits

Our certified parent educators partner with parents during bi-monthly visits that focus on parenting, child development, and family well-being. Visits usually last about an hour and are in the home where the family is most comfortable.

During this time parent educators share information on child development topics including: attachment, health, nutrition, safety, sleep, discipline, and transitions. They also work with families on setting and reaching goals, and problem-solving of any family concerns.

Each visit is planned specifically for the ages and abilities of each child in the home and feature a unique parent-child activity. Children will be given a book to promote literacy in the home.

Play Groups

Play groups are usually offered two days a month from September to May as an opportunity to foster parent-child interaction, to give families opportunities to connect with other families, and to share information focused on parenting topics.

Lead by parent educators play groups usually follow a routine beginning with the whole group gathered for book exploration time and a welcome song. After this most of the time will be for parents and children will explore a variety of stations set up around the room based on the child’s interests and abilities.

Closing activities usually include a snack time, sharing of a parenting topic, and a song or story read aloud. Families may choose to borrow books from our parent or child lending libraries before leaving.

Group Connections

Group Connections are offered throughout the year as an opportunity to foster parent-child interaction, to give families opportunities to connect with other families, and to learn about family friendly topics and resources in our local community.

Jumpstart group connections offer parents opportunities to learn about a variety of different parenting topics from guest speakers throughout the school year. We also offer excursions to family-friendly resources in our community. Aurora has so much to offer!
