East Aurora School District will take all precautionary measures to ensure that your child is safe and healthy at school. If your child is exposed to someone who has COVID-19, the following procedures must be followed:

Staying Home

Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from their state or local health department.

Who needs to quarantine?

Any student who has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 should quarantine.

This includes people who previously had COVID-19 and people who have taken a serologic (antibody) test and have antibodies to the virus.

What counts as close contact?

  • Your child was within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes.
  • Your child had direct physical contact with the person (touched, hugged, or kissed them).
  • Your child shared eating or drinking utensils.
  • Another person sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on your child.

Communication Regarding COVID-19 Illness

Individual schools will implement a tracking process for monitoring students who have been excluded from school due to having COVID-19 like symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 and are in quarantine.

  • All students who have been medically excluded for any of the above reasons must check-in and be cleared by the school nurse prior to returning to class.
  • Confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be reported to the local health department by the school nurse or designee as required by the Illinois Infectious Disease Reporting requirements issued by the IDPH.
  • Parents will immediately be informed of any possible exposure their child may have had to a person with a confirmed COVID-19 case while maintaining student and staff confidentiality rights.

If a student or staff member develop symptoms of COVID-19 during the school day:

  • The person who is ill with symptoms will be separated from others, and will go home to further isolate and follow up with their doctor.
  • While waiting for parent pick up, ill students will wait in a supervised designated isolation room.
  • The building health assistant will notify the building principal and Ms. Jennifer Sternberg (assistant director of health services for EASD131) of the individual who is ill.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures will be implemented by the building principal with maintenance staff, as required.
  • The building health assistant will track the students and staff who went home with symptoms by calling the following day and requesting information on whether the student was tested for COVID-19 and the results of testing.

If a student or staff member is confirmed to have a case of COVID-19, the following steps will be taken immediately to reduce transmission:

  • The building health assistant will report all positive test results to Ms. Jennifer Sternberg and to the building principal.
  • The principal will notify maintenance for cleaning and disinfection of the school building per EASD131 protocol.
  • All positive COVID-19 test results will be reported to the Kane County Health Department, and to the associate superintendent, per the Student Services department.
  • The Kane County Health Department will be provided information to complete contact tracing.
  • The student or staff member will be expected to quarantine in accordance with the CDC guidelines.
  • All proper notifications will be made to the school community as quickly as possible via various communication methods while maintaining confidentiality.

If a student or staff member has had close contact with the individual confirmed to have a case of COVID-19, the following steps will be taken immediately to reduce transmission:

  • The health assistant or principal will notify Ms. Jennifer Sternberg of the positive cases and that close contact has occurred.
  • The student or staff member will be requested to quarantine immediately in accordance with the CDC guidelines.
  • Ms. Jennifer Sternberg will notify the Kane County Health Department of the close contact so that contact tracing can be completed.
  • A member of the Student Services department will notify the associate superintendent immediately.
  • The proper notifications will be made to the school community as quickly as possible via various communication methods while maintaining confidentiality.

Quedarse en Casa

La cuarentena se usa para mantener a alguien, que podría haber estado expuesto al COVID-19, lejos de los demás. La cuarentena ayuda a prevenir la propagación de enfermedades, que pueden ocurrir, antes de que una persona sepa que está enferma, o si está infectada con el virus sin sentir síntomas. ¿Quién Necesita Ponerse en Cuarentena?

Cualquier estudiante, que haya estado en contacto cercano con alguien, que tenga COVID-19, debe ponerse en cuarentena.
Esto incluye a las personas que, anteriormente, tenían COVID-19 y a las personas que se hicieron una prueba serológica (de anticuerpos) y tienen anticuerpos contra el virus.

¿Qué Cuenta Como Contacto Cercano?

  • Su hijo estaba 6 pies de alguien, que tenía COVID-19, durante al menos 15 minutos.
  • Su hijo tuvo contacto físico directo, con la persona (la tocó, la abrazó o la besó)
  • Su hijo compartió utensilios para comer o beber.
  • Otra persona estornudó, tosió o de alguna manera, le cayó gotitas respiratorias a su hijo.

Comunicación Sobre la Enfermedad de COVID-19

Las escuelas individuales, implementarán un proceso de seguimiento, para monitorear a los estudiantes que han sido excluidos de la escuela, debido a síntomas similares a COVID-19, que han sido diagnosticados con COVID-19, o que han estado expuestos a alguien, con COVID-19 y están en cuarentena.

  • Todos los estudiantes que hayan sido excluidos, médicamente, por cualquiera de los motivos anteriores, deben registrarse y ser autorizados por la enfermera de la escuela, antes de regresar a clase.
  • Los casos confirmados de COVID-19, serán reportados al departamento de salud local, por la enfermera de la escuela, o la persona designada, según lo requerido por los requisitos de Reporte de Enfermedades Infecciosas, de Illinois, emitidos por el IDPH.
  • Los padres serán informados, inmediatamente, de cualquier posible exposición que su hijo pueda haber tenido, a una persona con un caso COVID-19 confirmado, mientras mantienen los derechos de confidencialidad, de los estudiantes y el personal.

Si un Estudiante o Miembro del Personal Desarrolla Síntomas de COVID-19 Durante el Día Escolar:

  • La persona que está enferma con síntomas, se separará de los demás y se irá a casa para aislarse y seguir con su médico.
  • Mientras esperan ser recogidos por los padres, los estudiantes enfermos esperarán en una sala de aislamiento designada supervisada.
  • El asistente de salud del edificio, notificará al director del edificio y a la Sra. Jennifer Sternberg (directora asistente de servicios de salud para EASD131) de la persona que está enferma.
  • Los procedimientos de limpieza y desinfección, serán implementados por el director del edificio, con el personal de mantenimiento, según sea necesario.
  • El asistente de salud del edificio, hará un seguimiento de los estudiantes y el personal que se fue a casa con síntomas, llamando al día siguiente y solicitando información, sobre si el estudiante fue examinado para COVID- 19 y los resultados de la prueba.

Si se confirma que un estudiante o miembro del personal tiene un caso de COVID-19, se tomarán los siguientes pasos de inmediato, para reducir la transmisión:

  • El asistente de salud del edificio, informará todos los resultados positivos de las pruebas a la Sra. Jennifer Sternberg y al director del edificio.
  • El director notificará al mantenimiento, para la limpieza y desinfección del edificio escolar, según el protocolo
  • Todos los resultados positivos de la prueba COVID-19, serán reportados al Departamento de Salud del Condado de Kane y al superintendente asociado, por el departamento de Servicios Estudiantiles.
  • El Departamento de Salud del Condado de Kane, recibirá información para completar el rastreo de contactos.
  • Se espera que el estudiante o miembro del personal, se ponga en cuarentena, de acuerdo con las pautas del CDC.
  • Todas las notificaciones apropiadas, se harán a la comunidad escolar, lo más rápido posible, a través de varios métodos de comunicación, manteniendo la confidencialidad.

Si un estudiante o miembro del personal, ha tenido contacto cercano con la persona confirmada para tener un caso de COVID-19, se tomarán los siguientes pasos de inmediato, para reducir la transmisión:

  • El asistente de salud o el director, notificará a la Sra. Jennifer Sternberg de los casos positivos y de que se ha producido un contacto cercano.
  • Se solicitará al alumno o al miembro del personal, que se ponga en cuarentena de inmediato, de acuerdo con las pautas del CDC.
  • La Sra. Jennifer Sternberg notificará al Departamento de Salud del Condado de Kane, el contacto cercano para que se pueda completar el rastreo de contactos.
  • Un miembro del departamento de Servicios Estudiantiles, notificará al superintendente asociado de inmediato.
  • Las notificaciones apropiadas se harán a la comunidad escolar, lo más rápido posible, a través de varios métodos de comunicación, manteniendo la confidencialidad.
