Student Online Personal Protect Act
In accordance with the Student Online Personal Protect Act (SOPPA), EASD 131 has entered into an agreement with the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) to publish online a list of all operators of online services or applications utilized by the district. Included in this list are all data elements that our district collects, maintains, or discloses to any entity, how EASD 131 uses the data, and whom and why it discloses it.
Per SOPPA guidelines, the published online list also provides for:
- Posted contracts for each operator within ten (10) days of signing;
- Subcontractors for each operator posted annually;
- A process for how parents can exercise their rights to inspect, review and correct information maintained by the district, operator, or ISBE; and
- Data breaches posted within ten (10) days and notification to parents within 30 days.
EASD 131 maintains a policy for signing contracts with operators and has designated a privacy officer to ensure compliance. Additionally, our district follows reasonable security procedures and practices. All agreements with vendors in which information is shared include a provision that the vendor maintains reasonable security procedures and practices.
